The Birthdays
And the decimals…
We are constantly transitioning, constantly evolving, constantly becoming, even when we feel nothing is changing. Everything is quietly transforming and slowly shifting... When we celebrate a birthday, we cheer for the new milestone of a new age we become, but we didn’t suddenly become our new age on the day of our birthdays. We’ve been on our way to the new birthday digits every single day for the past year. Our birthdays are the day we fully reach a new age. The very next moment, we are already on our way to the next becoming. Every moment, I am a decimal closer to my next age and a decimal away from my current age. The very day of my next birthday will also be the last day I will be at that very age, because I will be living the very beginning of my next age on earth right after it.
Our age does not stop on our birthdays. We are not the same age for the new year ahead, marked by our birthdays. We are actually already moving toward the next number, the moment we arrive at our yearly celebration, yearly recognition. There is no staying frozen, no staying stuck, no staying the same. Every moment brings us newness, inspiration, and transformation, no matter how incremental or unnoticeable to us.
Take comfort in knowing you are constantly evolving. Take comfort in knowing the rock bottom you fell into will become a new platform that lifts you up. Take comfort in understanding that your evolution is never complete, even when you feel you are on top of the world. Take comfort in facing challenge after challenge as you recognize the ever-changing wave we call life— each of us is born to walk through. Take comfort in shifting with it, growing with it, and unfolding with it, for that is the only constant in life.
Morning Air posts arrive on Sunday mornings (EST/PST).
I am grateful for your resonance with my writing.
